Who We Are

Avon Area Lakes Association is an organization concerned with the continued vitality of the seven lakes under our care. We are dedicated to preserve and protect not only the lakes, but we also endeavor to affect in whatever way we can to help the vitality of the Spunk Creek watershed.

We volunteer. Past volunteer activities include attending meetings with Stearns County Environmental Services, DNR, City of Avon, Stearns Coalition of Lakes Associations, etc. Members have trained for Volunteer Lake Access Monitoring and have put in hundreds of hours monitoring the lakes. We have held garage sales, sold hamburgers, participated in parades and other community events.

We have fun. We hold get-togethers including parties and dinners. Part of who we are and why we do this is the comradery and friendships we have made while being a part of such an important organization. Please consider being a part of our association and becoming a friend.

Our Programs

Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS)

Aquatic Invasive Species are non-native plants, animals and pathogens that can thrive in our waterways and cause environmental damage. Reducing AIS has been our main focus for a number of years. Specifically, some Avon Area Lakes have been identified as containing Eurasian Water Milfoil. Our fundraising efforts, along with grants from Stearns County, DNR and the City of Avon have allowed us to survey and treat areas of Eurasian Milfoil in Middle and Lower Spunk Lakes. This effort will need to be expanded if or when AIS is discovered in any of the rest of our 7 lakes.

Walleye Stocking

We stock Walleye in Middle Spunk Lake. Walleye used to be abundant in Middle Spunk, and we hope to restore this fishery.

Scholarship Fund

We provide two $500 annual scholarships to Albany Area High School students that plan on a career related to ecology.
